Help and Information

Prosecution Witnesses

You will be asked to come to court by the police to give evidence about an event that happened to you, or an event that you saw happen or have some information about.

You will have made a statement to the police

The Witness Service will obtain your statement on the day of the trial so that you can refresh your memory of events.

If staffing permits, a Witness Service volunteer will offer to accompany you into the courtroom.

You will be asked questions by the prosecuting counsel about what you saw and heard.

You will then be asked questions by the defence counsel who will test your evidence against the defendant’s version of events.

The Witness Service offers you the chance to come to court before the trial for a pre-trial visit.

Please contact the Witness Service if you are worried about giving evidence and we will help by answering your questions.

If you are in immediate danger call the police on 999
